The Nonwovens Innovation Academy (NIA), which brings together academics, students, scientists and industry experts to encourage knowledge sharing, research and developments that will support innovation and industry growth nonwovens, announced its program. The VTT Research Center will host the 2022 Academy in Jyväskylä, Finland on May 11-12, 2022.
This 2022 edition is built around three sessions, one covering medical applications and modeling studies, one dedicated to the search for more cellulosic fibers and other biomaterials and a session on advanced manufacturing technologies. The full program is available on the EDANA website.
“The NIA promotes fundamental understanding and knowledge of the science and technology of nonwoven fabrics, products and processes, and provides a unique opportunity for relaxed networking and structured meetings between researchers, students specializing in nonwovens or related fields and potential employers”, says Pierre Wiertz, CEO of EDANA.
“EDANA has been deeply involved in the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) and VTT is proud to host the NIA and showcase how the industry is responding in multiple ways to the resulting challenges,” commented Taina Kamppuri, senior scientist at VTT.
A visit to Valmet, a major paper pulp producer, and a visit to the mountain bike facilities round off the program nicely. “During your mountain bike tour, you will see the pilot foaming environment where we will perform a nonwoven demonstration. You will visit VTT’s nonwovens laboratories and you will discover the possibilities of processing VTT’s biomaterials”, concludes Taina
A key feature of the event supported by EDANA Scholarships is of course the poster session for which students and researchers are selected to present their latest work in a wide range of topics. This year, 13 posters will be presented.
