IND Hemp, Hempitcture Form Supply Partnership – Nonwovens Industry Magazine

Last week at IDEA22, IND HEMP and Hempitecture announced the coordinated supply chain partnership for the production and manufacturing of natural hemp fibers for Hempitecture’s non-woven hemp wool insulation which will be grown, processed and manufactured in the western United States. IND HEMP coordinates genetics, agronomy and contract production. acres of industrial hemp fiber in Montana, Oregon, Washington and now Idaho. The company is the “supply” of the supply chain performing the “first touch” dehulling process – the initial separation of raw materials directly from the farm to produce a consistent supply of raw hemp bast fiber at scale. Hempitecture has proven itself on the market with its hemp wool insulation product, under the brand the most durable and best performing insulation material on the planet’ for the past few years and is currently building a factory to manufacture airlaid insulation products in Jerome, ID.

Both companies share values and a strong commitment to sustainability and doing better for the planet. Hemp can capture and remove more CO² from the atmosphere per acre per year than a forest or other agricultural crops. In addition to the carbon sequestered in the soil during plant growth, above-ground plant biomass contains an average of 45% carbon. When the fibers are made into insulation and incorporated into a home, that CO² is sustainably sequestered and locked into the material, while offsetting the more energy-intensive processes and carbon footprints of existing materials, such as fiberglass insulation. Companies are aligned and working with other stakeholders to showcase industrial hemp and its use in products to participate in the XPRIZE Carbon Removal Challenge, which is funded by the Musk Foundation with $100 million in rewards for driving innovation in technologies and products to remove and sequester CO² from the atmosphere, with plans modeled on the scale of one gigatonne of CO² removed each year.

“IND HEMP is dedicated to supporting rural economies and providing sustainable solutions to industry. We are delighted with Hempitecture’s products and the use of natural fibers in building materials. This continues to show how products and the sustainability benefits of IND HEMP can be successfully adopted across a wide range of applications,” says Trey Riddle, Chief Strategy Officer at IND HEMP.

IND HEMP is a mission-driven, family-owned food, feed and agricultural hemp fiber processing company focused on creating opportunities for farmers and rural communities in Montana and across the west. IND HEMP has built the processing infrastructure – a 10 acre greenfield site with a 52,000 square foot production facility around a 5 ton per hour LAROCHE bast fiber decortication processing line which has been brought online in the first quarter of 2022.
