ANNUKO Barbershop – 360 MAGAZINE

Transforming the hair salon space is AANUKO – the brand new hair salon boutique located in Culver City’s Arts District. Officially opening on August 2, the AAPI-owned grooming salon is reshaping the barber scene from a drab, disengaged vibe, one haircut at a time.

Vaughn Lowery had the chance to chat with AANUKO CEO and President David Alfonso about the new store in its entirety. Check out their full conversation on the 360 MAG podcast HERE.

The living space that houses AANUKO cultivates creativity and community, unlike other conventional hair salons. With a strong team of people taking care of customers, stepping into AANUKO, you will instantly feel at home. What started as a passion project quickly turned into a business that aims to embody creativity and connection through the art of hair care.

David Alfonso recounts the theme behind the launch of ANNUKO, stating, “I wanted to reinvent the concept of the hair salon by immersing it in [an] unknown aesthetic, but [with a] strangely nostalgic [aesthetic].”

Although the hair salon is geared towards men’s grooming, AANUKO is a unisex business. Every customer gets more than a haircut from every visit; they gain knowledge about their own hair types, strategies they can employ to treat their hair, and a general sense of connection with their barbers.

Adorned with a stunning interior, the interior of the boutique is aesthetically designed. While the hair salon is located in Los Angeles, Alfonso explained that AANUKO aims to push boundaries and go beyond what other spaces in Los Angeles look like. Inspired by the use of color, the AANUKO team uses the theme of approaching life with a rebellious mindset.

Each visit to the hair salon invites customers into a fully immersive environment. From the gorgeous cafe serving free cocktails to the photo studio where guests can indulge in content creation, haircut tours start at $85. Barbers take the time to connect with clients, ensuring they get the most out of their trip to the salon.

Alfonso spoke about the decor and style of the space, saying it was “an artistic and rebellious approach to reimagining what we think is a really cool space for people to feel good about while making themselves cut the hair”.

While AANUKO’s styling definitely sets it apart from other spots, Alfonso made sure to highlight the true highlight of the design at the barbershop. For Alfonso, their eccentric and groundbreaking approach “sets the stage, because I think the most important part of the set is our team of barbers.”

Alfonso continued to rave about the talent of the workforce behind ANNUKO. With a diverse range of individuals working together to ensure success, they all have a few things in common. From their impeccable physical skills with grooming to their passion for their craft, every unit at ANNUKO is dedicated to carrying a rebellious spirit to transform the hair salon experience.

AANUKO celebrates its grand opening on August 2 at 5790 Washington Blvd. Their hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations can be made online HERE, and walk-ins are also available.
