Ahlstrom-Munksjö Completes Investment in Turin – Nonwovens Industry Magazine

Originally announced in January 2020, Ahlstrom-Munksjö has finalized its investment and started production of additional capacity of filtration and energy storage materials at its factory in Turin, Italy. By successfully expanding its manufacturing facilities, Ahlstrom-Munksjö has a strong commitment to its customers in the high performance filtration and energy storage markets.

The new machine at the Turin factory is a state-of-the-art line specially designed to produce glass microfiber supports. The line will serve applications where a glass microfiber backing is required, supporting Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s growth initiatives in industrial filtration as well as Absorbed Glass Matt (AGM), a key component of lead-acid batteries. Additionally, the new line will also be able to supply saturated filter media inline, meeting the growing global demand for filter media.

“This capacity increase in Turin is an important step for Ahlstrom-Munksjö. We are happy to be able to bring the best of technology to our customers, both for efficient filtration and for energy storage. This investment supports our company’s strategic ambition to maintain a leadership position in growth niches of global filtration markets such as cleanroom, HVAC and hydraulic applications,” says Giuseppe Costa, Vice President, Filtration & Performance Solutions Asia and EMEA. “Additionally, the company is taking a big step into the energy storage market by commissioning a platform that will be fully qualified for manufacturing AGM media.”

“Ahlstrom-Munksjö has responded to growing customer demand by successively expanding its global filtration manufacturing capabilities through several new and expansion investments over the past few years,” said Daniele Borlatto, Executive Vice President, Filtration & Performance Solutions. “Thanks to this strategy, Ahlstrom-Munksjö is seen in the filtration market as a unique and innovative media supplier, able to provide a wide range of high quality products in all geographies. With this new investment, our company once again proves its dedication to the filtration market and, in addition, its desire to become a key supplier of media for energy storage.

This investment follows the restart of one of the saturators at the Turin plant, allowing Ahlstrom-Munksjö to provide additional capacity and respond effectively to customer demands for high performance filter media.
